4th of July - Yachting Style

So, while Jess was spending her holiday watching people pound hot dogs on Coney Island, I opted for a more leisure approach to the independence day holiday. Some friends and I decided to head out on a yacht to enjoy the fireworks from the water this year, rather than the beach.

It was pretty amazing...

4th of July - NYC Style

From Jessie:

I headed to Coney Island on the 4th to see Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi as well as some other competitors battle it out in the biggest event in the competitive eating circuit - the Nathan's Annual Hot Dog Eating Contest! Joey Chestnut set a new work record with 66 dogs, I ate 1 1/2 and was feeling pretty full so I can't even imagine. They kept us entertained before the show with parody rappers singing about food to the tunes of Eminem or others and we even checked out the world Famous Coney Island Freak show after the contest and saw "wolf man" a guy with a disease that caused thick dark hair to grow on his entire body, even his entire face!

Field of Fire

Mom, Dad, Scott, and Nathan represented the family this year at Uncle Karl’s annual 4th of July celebration in Tooele. I think we are ALL pretty jealous that we missed out on this pretty amazing day. As Dad said, “Given that the Provo's fireworks show is known as the 'Stadium of Fire,' Karl's show could be titled the 'Field of Fire.' His show was tremendous and the firemen he hired were very very very busy putting out brush fires through the whole thing. Since we were very close to the action, it added extra excitement.”

What a relief!

It looks like Uncle Sam survived the move from New Jersey...I know we are all thrilled.

I wonder who's bed he'll end up in first :)

Just in time for the Fourth of July too.

Summer of Fun Begins!

Our summer of fun began with a visit from Scott! We spent the weekend eating and eating (as per Scott's request :-)). Scott and Kevin had a fun Friday afternoon at the Googleplex eating in the gourmet cafeterias and touring Google's campus. Scott even got to look like a Google nerd and ride around on one of the Google bikes with a little red flag on it (so that people don't steal them). Later that night we took a trip to our favorite restaurant, The Cheesecake Factory. Our favorite new dessert is the Godiva Brownie Sundae. On Saturday, we headed off to the SF Giants game vs. the New York Yankees. Scott and I enjoyed sporting our Yankees caps and cheering for the Yankees (and Barry Bonds- we really wanted him to get his 750th home run). The game went 13 innings and as Scott said, it was kinda like the Pizza Hut buffet, really good and then way too much, but then still pretty good. Unfortunately, the Giants pulled off a great come back and the Yankees lost :-( Afterwards we ventured over to Ghirardelli Square for some huge ice cream sundaes. Then we headed home so that Kevin and Scott could have some bonding over Halo. Several of our other single guy friends came over and the boys stayed up playing till late drinking rootbeer and eating In N'Out. I think it might've been one of the highlights of the weekend. On Sunday, Scott got to join Kevin and I as we taught our new primary class- the Junior Nursery! The kids loved wrestling with Scott and goofing around and Scott did an incredible job keeping kids involved as we sang "The Wheels on the Bus" and "We are a happy Family" during music time. We all had huge headaches by the time we got home! Later in the day we were were blessed to have the Heyman family over for a BBQ. It was so fun to see Kate getting to be so big! We also learned some great parenting techniques from Jenny and Chris. They are super parents! The weekend of fun finally ended on Sunday night when we dropped Scott off at the airport and sent him back to Utah to start Summer term at BYU. We had such a fun time with him and were sad to see him go. Kevin loved getting to hang out with him and talk about phones, computers, Google, video games... really anything techy. It was a great way to kick off our summer of fun!
