Dr. Ewart

Last night I was at Enrichment and I was talking with my friend Sunshine who also happens to be from Mesa, AZ (like my dad). I mentioned that my grandparents lived near Brown/Gilbert and we started to play the name game...obviously with the last name "Smith" that's easier said than done. BUT, when I mentioned the last name Ewart, Sunshine perked up and said, "What? You're Dr. Ewart's granddaughter?" And I said, "Yes, he's my grandpa." Then she said, "You don't understand. Dr. Ewart was my doctor. I LOVED Dr. Ewart" and proceeded to recount for me a description of the sofa in his office, the house calls he used to make to her home growing up with his authentic black doctor's bag, and how much he had meant to her family. She said one time when she was sick and hadn't had a visit from the doctor for over seven years, Grandpa stopped by, and with his quick wit said, "Well I must be doing a pretty good job if I haven't had to visit you in 7 years!" She couldn't stop raving and raving about Grandpa and how much of an impact he had had on her family.

It made me tear up as I once again realized how much of an important role Grandpa played in the lives of so many people, and he probably didn't even realize it...

It also made me realize once again how small of a world we live in, and how it's important that we take pride in our family name and try to live up to it and make our parents, grandparents, and ancestors proud.
